‘Blackface started attacking me when I decided to go solo’

TUFACE OPENS UP ON FEUD WITH BLACKFACE
Popular Nigerian artiste, Tuface has given graphic details of what transpired between him and his former friend and band mate, Blackface, revealing that the latter started attacking him after he made known his intention to go solo to all the members of the defunct musical group, plantashun boiz. Blackface, Tuface Tuface, now known as Tubaba made this revelation, while speaking in an exclusive interview with Vanguard entertainment team, in Lagos. The “African Queen” crooner said he never attacked Blackface openly despite all the negative things he has said about him. He lamented what he calls the continued desire of his former band mate to rubbish his hard earned name by accusing him of stealing his song. Ghanaian female dancehall singer, Shegee’s biggest dream While trying to put the record straight, Tuface denied stealing any song from Blackface. According to him, two of them wrote “African Queen’ and “Let somebody love You” together. He wondered why Blackface has continued to accuse him of stealing his song despite the legal action against him. Tracing the genesis of their feud, Tuface said “I have had series of meetings with concerned people. Blackface started attacking me right from when I decided to go solo. I tried as much as possible to give credit to anybody that contributed to any of my songs. I have never hidden anything away from Blackface. Both of us have worked together for years before I decided to go solo. And before I went solo, I practically informed every member of the defunct plantashun boiz.” “So, there has never been a case of I stole or I used something that I was not supposed to use. And every time, he comes up with this accusation, the question has always been : which of the songs did I steal from you? Award-winning lyricist behind “Killing Me Softly” dead at 91 There has never been any proof that I have stolen a song from him. But he always says this at my back or whenever he’s granting an interview to the press. That’s why I said Blackface is the one who’s in the best position to answer that question. I don’t know what Blackface’s problem is right now.” Narrating further, Tuface said “It has always been on record that “African Queen’ and “Let somebody love You” was written by myself and Blackface. These were the only two songs that I used and I mentioned it from the outset. It was Blackface that asked me if I wasn’t going to include “African Queen in my first album. So, there was never a case of I stole his song. Both of us have the right to use the song. He had given somebody the permission to use the song before, and I did not say anything. He has also done something with the song before and I never said anything about it. There were a couple of songs he used in his own project which we did together and I never reacted negatively about it. And every time he comes up with this bizarre attack, he tried to rubbish my name.” “My lawyer wrote to him in 2017. And the letter reads “You either stop saying that I stole your song or you sue me to court.” This is because if you don’t sue me and wouldn’t stop saying that I stole your song, I’m going to drag you to court. He somehow stopped the accusations after this letter. But later he started again. He has been accusing me of stealing his song for years. His attack did not start today. It started four months after I released my first album. So, it’s not as if I did anything wrong to him before he started attacking me. Months later after receiving the legal warning, he started attacking me again. So, right now, we have gone to court. I actually dragged him to court.” “He should stop rubbishing my name by accusing me of stealing his song. I don’t know what to do next than to take a legal action against him. Some of our friends are urging me to settle him. But he’s not saying that. Blackface is not saying 2face you abandoned me and that’s why I’m attacking you. I tried to do something in the background. I love and respect Blackface. I have never attacked him publicly. It’s only one time I got angry and I tweeted something about it. He went to press to attack me back. Eedris Abdulkareem decided to join forces with him. Eedris once upon a time, said 2face your are the plantashun, the rest are the boiz.” Adesua Etomi, Toke Makinwa , other celebrities congratulate Adekunle Gold, Simi on new song “Eedris said that Blackface did a massive dis-track. All of a sudden, Eedris is now saying that it was blackface that made me. I got angry and tweeted that since they claimed to be star makers, let them organize themselves and move on. That was the first and last time I ever responded to Blackface’s attack. I haven’t really talked elaborately on this like this before. But like I said earlier, I have taken a legal action against Blackface. I don’t care whoever will win the legal battle . If it ends in my favour fine and if ends in his favour so be it. The truth of the matter is the proof of ownership. That’s where we are at the moment. It’s obvious there’s something he has against me that I don’t know of,” 2face narrated. Recall that Blackface, whose real names are Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, has over the years levelled allegations of song theft against 2face. The former claimed that he wrote ‘Let Somebody Love You’ and ‘African Queen’; the latter’s biggest songs to date. The dancehall singer also claims that 2face sabotaged his career by plotting to deprive him of shows for several years. In May, 2017, 2face asked his former collaborator to apologize for making “defamatory” statements against him or face legal action. However, after some time 2face still made do with his threats and consequently instituted a N50 million lawsuit against his former band mate. After Plantashun Boiz split in 2004, Blackface led a solo musical career. He released the hip-hop album Ghetto Child in 2004 collaborating with a number of artistes. He also recorded a full-length album for his crew, D Tribunal, called What We Are. In 2013, he made a collaborative album 200 with Maine Eazz. Naby Keita still adapting to life at Liverpool, says Klopp Sadly, there has been a longstanding beef between the dancehall veteran, and 2face. In January 2016, Blackface in a series of tweets lashed out at 2face and his manager, Efe Omorogbe, accusing them of stealing his intellectual property and even threatening to take them to court. Since then, Blackface has refused to renege on his statements. Meanwhile, Blackface, 2face and Faze, members of Plantashun Boiz, once reunited in 2007 for an album called ‘Plan B’.

Nigeria stands still for BBNaija auditions

AUDITIONS for the fourth edition of Big Brother Naija which held over the weekend in eight different cities experienced a huge turnout.

Thousands of young people flooded the venues with hopes of being chosen as housemates in the Big Brother Naija House competing for the ultimate prize.

And while other venues like Abuja, Benin, Calabar, Enugu, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and Warri had a manageable crowd, that of Lagos was off the roof with estimated figures of attendees put at 6, 000 on Friday, the first day of the audition.

The remaining seven venues hosted about 13,000 participants. Many have compared the audition crowd to typical carnivals and other religious concerts.

In Lagos, a BBN hopeful, Thompson Alade, proposed to another hopeful,  Jessica Arowolo, to marry him.

Interestingly, Thompson met her at the audition. There were shouts of jubilation as fellow contestants took pictures and videos of the proposal. Jessica who hopes to get into the Big Brother Naija house so she can showcase her business to the world is a cosmetologist who produces skin care products while Thompson is an aspiring musician.

According to a release from representatives of the organizers, MultiChoice Nigeria anticipated the turnout and arranged private security men, police officers and LASTMA officials, who were on ground to coordinate vehicular traffic and medical personnel were also present to manage any issues that may arise.

However, the situation on ground proved to be different at the Lagos audition centre, D Podium Event Centre, Ikeja, on Friday.

A participant, Adeniyi Adewoyin, arrived at the venue as early by 5am but it was not till about 6pm he auditioned. He noted that aside pushing and shoving, people were scaling fences to get entrance into the venue, adding that some miscreants also used the commotion to rob others. He also said people sustained injuries in the process.

“I saw two girls who was injured,” he said.

“The whole place was just crazy. And it would have been better if the organisers had prepared for it. I didn’t see any ambulance.”

This is similar to what another attendee posted on Facebook.

Signing the post as Ivan The Terrible, the writer talked of how the crowd was uncontrollable and people resorted to pushing and shoving with several people being trampled on in ensuing melee. The writer also narrated how she saved a participant by rushing him to Lagoon Hospital, also in Ikeja.

“A guy was lying on the side of the road in just underpants matted in wet sand, filth and an oddly angled right arm,” she wrote.

“He was frothing from his mouth in near throes of death and breathing laboriously.

Audition contestants were standing around gisting and laughing–paying no heed to the dying guy lying right before them.”

According to her, she gathered that: “(1) He had fallen from the high fence while trying to scale, dislocated his right arm and had a near fatal seizure. (2) He had immediately been so trampled by a horde of boots against the broken metal barricade; that his entire clothes had been torn beyond recognition–and so they had to be peeled off his body and stacked in a messy heap close-by while his near-lifeless body was  dragged across the road and deposited beside the gutter. (3) His both I-phones had been stolen, plus his wallet, credit cards, international passport with Dublin and Canada Visas.”

She also said that while she was at the hospital, she learnt others were affected in the melee.
