The officers, identified as Rex Englebert and Michael Collazo, reportedly fired the fatal shots just 14 minutes after the initial gunfire.
According to Fox17 News, Officers Rex Englebert and Michael Collazo are the two Nashville police officers who shot and killed Audrey Hale just 14 minutes after the start of the Covenant School massacre. Hale, a transgender woman who was a student at the school, is suspected of murdering six people, including three nine-year-olds, after breaking down the entrance to the Presbyterian private school. Nashville Police Chief John Drake stated that Hale left behind a manifesto and a map of the school detailing surveillance entry points. While the exact motive behind the massacre remains unknown, authorities have stated that Covenant School was specifically targeted. Police also reported that Hale was on the second floor of the building firing at a police car when officers arrived at the scene. Hale was armed with three guns and had a substantial amount of ammunition. Social media users have praised Engelbert and Collazo for their heroism, calling them great Americans who prevented a greater tragedy. The National Police Fraternity tweeted: “hero!
