Mr. Robert Ingram, also known as Bob Ingram, is currently the General Partner at Hatteras Venture Partners, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage life science companies. Prior to his current role, Mr. Ingram held several high-profile positions, including CEO and Chairman of Glaxo/Wellcome, where he played a significant role in the merger and integration that resulted in the creation of GlaxoSmithKline. After retiring at the age of 60, he worked as Vice Chairman of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and later as a strategic advisor to the company’s CEO. Additionally, Mr. Ingram is currently the CEO of BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Novan, a late-stage pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology, and Viamet Pharmaceuticals, a privately held company focused on anti-infective drug discovery. He also serves as the lead director of Cree’s board of directors. For his exceptional contributions, Mr. Ingram has been recognized with the NACD B. Kenneth West Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Corporate Directors in 2013.
Mr. Ingram has also been an active participant in public service initiatives. At the request of President George HW Bush, he created and chaired the CEO Cancer Roundtable, an initiative focused on cancer prevention and treatment. Mr. Ingram also served on the National Cancer Advisory Board of the National Institutes of Health, appointed by President George W. Bush in 2006. In recognition of his outstanding public service, Mr. Ingram received the North Carolina Public Service Award in 2014, the state’s highest civilian honor bestowed on an individual.
In addition to his professional and public service endeavors, Mr. Ingram is actively involved in various civic and professional organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, the Research Triangle Institute, and is the Chairman of the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation. Mr. Ingram is also involved with the James B. Hunt Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy, the Cancer CEO Roundtable, and the Advisory Board of the Congressional Task Force on Biomedical Research and Innovation. Mr. Ingram obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Illinois University.
