Carol Creighton Burnett is an accomplished American actress, comedian, singer, and author. She is best known for her pioneering comedy variety show, The Carol Burnett Show, which was one of the first shows of its kind to be hosted by a woman and aired on CBS. Throughout her career, Burnett has excelled in all forms of entertainment, including theater, television, and film.

Burnett was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 26, 1933, and later moved with her family to Hollywood, California. She attended Hollywood High School before majoring in drama and musical comedy at UCLA. She began performing in nightclubs in New York City and eventually landed a role in the Broadway hit Once Upon a Mattress in 1959, which earned her a Tony Award nomination.

Burnett made her television debut on The Gary Moore Show in the early 1960s, and she won her first Emmy Award in 1962. She also appeared in the CBS Dallas State Fair production of Calamity Jane in 1963. Burnett’s most significant success, however, came when she moved to Los Angeles and starred in The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978. The variety show featured a mix of comedy sketches, songs, and dance routines, and it was hugely popular. Burnett and the show won numerous awards, including Emmys and Golden Globes.

Beyond her iconic variety show, Burnett has had an impressive career in film and television. Her film roles include appearances in Pete ‘n’ Tillie, The Front Page, Four Seasons, Annie, Noises Off, and Horton Hears a Who! She has also appeared in other sketch shows and dramatic roles, earning an Emmy for her performance in Friendly Fire. Burnett returned to Broadway in 1995 with Moon Over Buffalo, and she was once again nominated for a Tony Award.

Burnett’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed, and she has received numerous honors for her contributions to entertainment. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2013, and the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. In 2022, she starred in Better Call Saul, demonstrating that she continues to be a force in the entertainment industry.
