Dick Fosbury Obituary – Death: Legendary athlete Passed Away after “changing the high jump forever”

Dick Fosbury, the American high jumper who revolutionized the sport with his innovative “Fosbury flop” technique and won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, has passed away at the age of 76.

Fosbury, who baffled opponents and spectators with his unconventional approach to the high jump, died on Sunday after a recurrence of lymphoma. Tributes have since flooded in for the track and field legend.

At the 1968 Olympics, Fosbury’s technique, which differed greatly from the traditional scissor kick style used by other athletes, allowed him to clear 2.24 meters and secure the top prize.

Former agent Ray Schulte announced Fosbury’s passing on Instagram, describing him as a longtime friend and client, and a “track and field legend.” The news prompted an outpouring of condolences from the sports community, with athletes such as Ato Bolden, Michael Johnson, and Adam Gemili paying tribute to Fosbury’s legacy.
