Ethan Francis Cutkosky is an American actor and singer renowned for his appearances as Carl Gallagher in the Showtime series Shameless and Barto in The Unborn. He was born on August 19, 1999, in Campton Hills, IL, as the only child of Yvonne Cabrera Cutkosky, a teacher, and David Cutkosky, a computer software engineer. His mother is of Mexican heritage, and he attended Bell’s Graham Elementary School and Thompson Middle School in St. Charles, Illinois, followed by St. Charles East High School.
At the tender age of four, Cutkosky began creating photo ads so that he could spend more time with his mother. He soon moved on to commercials and eventually auditioned for movies, playing his first film role as Carl in the Christmas comedy Fred Claus at the age of seven. At nine, he played Barto, a mythical spirit, in the supernatural horror film The Unborn, co-starring with Gary Oldman.
In 2009, Cutkosky was chosen to play Carl Gallagher, the second youngest and most troublesome of the Gallagher siblings, on the Showtime television series Shameless. The show, which premiered in 2011 and ran for 11 seasons until 2021, is Showtime’s longest-running original series to date.
