Gloria Bosman Obituary – Death: Jazz Singer and songwriter passed away, Cause Of Death

On Tuesday, it was confirmed by a heartbroken source to the Sunday World that Gloria Bosman, the renowned jazz singer-songwriter, had passed away at the age of 50 after a brief illness. Jazz legend Sipho Hotstix also paid tribute to the singer on his social media.

Bosman was born in Mofolo and raised in Pimville, Soweto, and started her music career singing in a church choir. In 1993, she received a scholarship to study opera at the Pretoria Institute of Technology after impressing audiences with a performance at the Market Theater. Throughout her career, Bosman performed with numerous local and international music legends, including Sibongile Khumalo, Moses Molelekwa, Tananas, Concord Nkabinde, Sipho Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, Sipho Gumede, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Victor Masondo with Hugh Masequeira.

Bosman’s talent took her across the world, performing in London, Amsterdam, Australia, Angola, France, Finland, Nigeria, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, and South America. She also appeared in a theater production titled African Songbook, performed at Arts Cape, Cape Town, and at the July 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China. Bosman was recently appointed as the newest member of the Southern African Music Rights Organization (Samro) board.

Bosman was not just a singer but also a producer, composer, and presenter. Her debut album, Tranquility, won her the Best New Artist award, along with nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Female Album at the 2001 South African Music Awards (SAMA). All five of her albums were successful, with The Many Faces Of Gloria Bosman, featuring some of South Africa’s finest musicians, being nominated for Best South African Artist and Most Promising Female Artist at the prestigious KORA Awards 2001, as well as a SAMA nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
