A private Christian elementary school in Nashville was the site of a tragic shooting in which three adults and three nine-year-old children were killed by a gunman. This incident marks the deadliest school shooting in nearly a year and the 19th school or college shooting with at least one injury in 2023, according to CNN. The Covenant School, which is a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, expressed its heartbreak in a statement and thanked first responders and supporters. The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department identified the six victims as three students and three staff members, including Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Harley Scruggs, who were all 9 years old, and Mike Hill, Catherine Coons, and Cynthia Peake, who were all adults.
