Mike Day Seal Obituary – Death: A Memoir About What Happens After a Miracle

Mike Day, a former Navy SEAL, survived an astounding ordeal during his deployment to Iraq: he was shot 27 times. In April 2007, Day and his team were searching for a senior al-Qaeda cell in Anbar province with a group of Iraqi scouts. Upon entering a 12×12 room, Day encountered four terrorist leaders who ambushed him. Despite sustaining shrapnel wounds, he managed to take out all four terrorists before clearing the rest of the house and rescuing six women and children. Day then walked alone to a waiting helicopter that brought him to safety. In the hospital, he lost 25 pounds in two weeks and it took him nearly two years to fully recover from his injuries. Day was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD and traumatic brain injury, both common afflictions suffered by veterans who have experienced the invisible trauma of war.
