Ron Davis Obituary – Death: Former CTO, Media Monks Cause Of Death

Bloody hell I’m absolutely shocked. @RonDavis who I’ve just watched on Starstruck has passed away. My heart goes out to Rons family and friends.

Ronald Gene Davis (born August 6, 1955) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for 11 years from 1978 to 1988. Davis played for the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins in the American League, and the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants in the National League. In 1981, he was selected to the American League All-Star team.

Davis was born in Houston, Texas. He’s 6-foot-4 and a right-handed pitcher who excels at pitching. During his career, he came off the bench in 481 games and recorded 130 saves.

He was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs and traded to the minor league New York Yankees in 1978. During his time in New York, All-Star backup pitcher Rich Gossage used him as the team’s finisher after an injury. He was also one of the first pitchers on the Yankees to be used exclusively as a midinning “ready” pitcher. For two seasons in 1980 and 1981, Davis and Gorsec were an effective duo that many teams still use today.

Davis still holds the Yankees record for most consecutive strikeouts with eight strikeouts in a game, set on May 4, 1981, against the California Angels. The feat also gave him the franchise record for most strikeouts by a reliever in a single game. That record was set by Michael King on April 22, 2022, when he struck out eight of nine batters.

During the 1981 Major League Baseball strike, Davis worked as a server at a restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Kansas City. On July 18, two walkways in the hotel collapsed, killing 114 people. According to media reports, Davis participated in the subsequent rescue efforts.
