The FIA spokesperson confirmed Saif Ben Sulayem’s death, and the family has requested privacy during this difficult time. Therefore, no further statements are expected from either the FIA or Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Saif Ben Sulayem competed in the 2016-17 UAE Formula 4 series, where he raced against current Formula 1 rookies Logan Sargeant and Oscar Piastri.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, Saif’s father, is a former rally driver and the current head of the FIA, which oversees multiple racing disciplines, including Formula 1. Mohammed Ben Sulayem was appointed FIA president in December 2021, but he recently announced that he would step back from direct involvement in F1.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s decision came after he had disagreements with Formula 1 owners and stakeholders regarding the potential inclusion of new teams on the grid and the future of the sport’s media rights.
