Sam Kesselman Obituary – Death: victim of a hit and run cause of death
Samuel Kesselman, also known as Sam or “Case”, was on his way to an EY work event on Thursday night, October 20, when he was involved in a hit-and-run incident. While waiting at a red light, a speeding car hit him from behind and fled the scene. The incident is being investigated by a special unit of the DC Police.
Sam was rushed to Howard University Medical Center, where he underwent immediate surgery to reduce brain swelling caused by the traumatic brain injury. Within 48 hours, he was transferred to the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Bayview) and is receiving excellent care. However, he remains in a coma and has sustained serious injuries. His mother Alison Schechter, father Stephen Kesselman, brother Ross, sister Ross Kesselman, and girlfriend Erin Passow are all by his side during this difficult time. Sam’s condition is critical, and he has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Sam was a beloved individual who positively impacted the lives of those around him. He was seen as a natural leader, guided by Jewish values. During his time at Cornell University, he held numerous leadership positions in various organizations, such as Teaching Assistant for Policy Analysis and Management, Cornell Political Alliance, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fellowship, and ZBT Fraternity President. After graduating in Spring 2022, he began working as a government consultant at Ernst & Young.
Sam’s nine years as a camper and three years as an employee at Modin Camp had a significant impact on him. He grew up with his best friend and became a respected leader in the camp community, serving as a role model for campers and supervisors alike. Even now, he continues to provide support and advice to his former campers.
Sam was known for his kindness, caring nature, generosity, and selflessness. He won the Newton City Community Service and Massachusetts Jewish War Veterans Scholarship and interned with Seti Warren in local municipal government while working on Jake Auchincloss’ campaign office. He was loved and respected by his colleagues and managers at Johnny’s, a local Newton landmark.
Sam’s medical and recovery needs require extensive and prolonged care, resulting in substantial medical bills. To support him during this challenging time, Sam’s ZBT brothers at Cornell have created a GoFundMe page to collect donations. All donations will go towards his medical expenses and recovery needs. Sam’s family appreciates the outpouring of love and support from everyone and hopes that he will wake up soon to read the messages and donations.
