The individual believed to have committed the stabbing of a newborn baby on the University of Georgia’s campus 27 years ago has been identified as a former student. The perpetrator took his own life eight years after the incident, while a witness to the crime also committed suicide in the same building where it took place.

The University of Georgia Police Department has responded to a public records request from the Athens Standard Herald by providing requested documents. The investigation into the case has recently concluded, with authorities identifying the woman who gave birth and carried out the stabbing on April 8.

The victim, Kathryn Anne Grant, was a former student who resided at Oglethorpe House during her time at the university. While she was a student at the time of the murder, she had left the institution by the spring of 1996 and was no longer considered a student.
