Despite two gunshot wounds to the head, the 32-year-old’s death was initially believed to be a suicide. However, following an investigation by Alabama law enforcement agency SBI, Mr. Crawford was indicted a year later for the murder. On November 18, 2022, a Cullman County jury found him guilty, and on March 10, 2023, he was sentenced to 99 years in prison. Crawford maintains his innocence and alleges that his wife committed suicide. In an exclusive interview with CBS’ 48 Hours coverage of “The Mysterious Death of Tiffany Crawford,” Crawford discusses his case. During the interview, a curious detail emerged about Crawford’s 911 call on the night of his wife’s death. Lead investigator Joseph Parrish told reporter David Begnaud that he found Crawford’s tone “very nonchalant” and not concerned about his wife’s wellbeing. Parrish was also concerned about Crawford’s refusal to answer one of the 911 operator’s questions. According to Crawford, his wife kept a pink revolver in the car door for protection. When a member of Congress asked what happened, he stated that they had a fight, and he did not let her in the house. The last thing he remembers is hearing a shot, a scream, and another shot. Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry referred the case to the Alabama Department of State for investigation the day after the shooting. Due to a conflict of interest with Jason’s mother, Ronda, who was his office manager at the time and worked for him, Parrish took over the investigation. However, when Parrish wanted to see the van, he discovered that investigators had already returned it to the family after photographing it on the night of Tiffany’s death. The family had thoroughly cleaned the vehicle, which Parrish described as “weird.” He also noted how quickly they cleaned it up after such an incident.
