In 2020, ABC’s unscripted executive Rob Mills explained the rationale behind the show, stating, “Some of the casting interviews we received were very touching. It’s a very different approach to ‘The Bachelor’ because these guys are at a very different stage in their lives. One of the interesting things about the guys who have made it to the other end of the spectrum, they’re living their lives, raising kids, some are widowed or divorced, maybe some have never been in love. We thought it would be an interesting dynamic through the prism of ‘The Bachelor.'”
According to Reality Steve, filming for the first season of “The Bachelor” commenced on August 3, 2023, and lasted for approximately three weeks. This shoot was notably shorter than those of traditional “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” seasons, which typically span around seven weeks. “Bachelor in Paradise” also had a filming duration of about three weeks.
Spoilers also reveal some intriguing contestants:
- Patty James: A 70-year-old retired real estate professional from Durham, South Carolina. She’s the mother of Season 25 Bachelor Matt James and is ready to embark on her own journey to find love.
- Susan Noles: A 66-year-old wedding officiant from Aston, Pennsylvania. She is the ex-wife of former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher and MLB player Dickie Noles, with whom she shares three children and six grandchildren.
Gerry, the oldest Bachelor in the show’s history, embarked on hometown dates with three contestants in late August 2023. The contestants include Leslie Fhima, a 64-year-old fitness instructor from Minneapolis, Minnesota; Faith Martin, a 60-year-old high school teacher from Benton, Washington; and Theresa Nist, a 69-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey.
It’s worth noting that Gerry’s season of “The Bachelor” features one less hometown date compared to the traditional format of the show, which typically includes four hometown dates.
